With a repertoire drawn from the Great American Songbook of composers like George Gershwin,
Duke Ellington, and Jerome Kern, and famous jazz artists like Miles Davis and Fats Waller,
Paul Hintz performs as a solo 7-string jazz guitarist in an intricate yet relaxing style
perfect for listening or as a sophisticated background.
For 30 years, Hintz has polished his craft, both in and around his hometown of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, and in Minnesota, since moving to St. Paul in 1984. During his four years in the
Jazz Performance program at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Hintz studied with jazz
masters including nationally known guitarist Jack Grassel.
While he's performed everything from folk music with a mime troupe to Top 40 with a series of
variety bands, Hintz found his real calling when he began performing fingerstyle guitar
instrumentals, emphasizing jazz and related styles, in the early 1990s. Audience members praise
the "relaxing" and "mellow" essence of his style.
In 1997, Hintz began performing exclusively on the 7-string guitar, which adds a unique dimension
to his presentation of the best in mainstream jazz material.
Primarily a solo artist, Hintz also works in duo, trio and quartet settings.
